Large crowds turned out for another successful event, the second annual Wendy Glenn Memorial Fundraiser, held at the Cochise County Fairgrounds on April 30.
The event raised over $42,000, which will benefit the Douglas Run/Walk for the Cure (DRWC), a non-profit organization that works directly with families in Douglas who are dealing with cancer. Money that is donated by the DRWC helps with medical bills, traveling costs, and other expenses that are associated with the fight of cancer.
During Saturday’s event attendees participated in live and silent auctions, featuring items and vacation getaways that were donated by community members.
Donors included Gerry and Cynthia Bohmfalk, Heinz and Michelle Steinmann, Mike and Barbara Chrisman, Guy and Palma Hudson, Bill, Sandi, Bill T., and Sara Thomas, Warner Glenn, Ron and Margaret Bemis, Carolyn Colangelo, and the Howard Buffet Foundation among others.
Attendees also enjoyed ‘Best Ever’ Goat Roping, a competition for all ages, and live music from The Spur of the Moment Band.
“I wanted to make my way out here because I think it’s a fun event, and for a great cause,” said attendee, Susan Lorde. “Cancer is something that’s a sensitive topic for myself and my family, and we just want to give back as much as we can.”
The DRWC will host its next fundraising event in November, the annual Turkey Trot, held every Thanksgiving at Airport Park.
The Wendy Glenn event was created in part by Kelly Kimbro, and family, to memorialize her late mother who lost the fight to pancreatic cancer two years ago.
Other sponsors of the event included: Copper Queen Community Hospital, Burris and Lori Yunker, Maddux & Sons, Inc., Chuck and Alvina Hoyack, Jay Jones III, Don Mundo, JO-Quarter Horses, Hickman Family Farms, Diamond A Ranch, and Bill and Mary McDonald, among many others.
