Copper Queen Medical Associates (CQMA) announced, on Jan. 26, that Tucson Orthopedic Institute double board-certified Physician, Scott Slagis, MD will be seeing patients in Douglas.

Appointments and walk-ins will be available on Feb. 12 and March 11 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jessica Sterusky, Marketing and Public Relations Manager for Copper Queen Community Hospital/ Medical Associates notes that appointments are highly encouraged due to the high demand.

According to Sterusky, Dr. Slagis recently appeared on the Best Doctors in America® List for 2015-2016.

“Only five percent of doctors in America earn this prestigious honor, decided by impartial peer review,” wrote Sterusky in an official CQMA press release. “He brings his high level experience to a broad spectrum of musculoskeletal injuries and problems. His diverse skills translate into more complete care for patients of all ages. Tucson Orthopedic Institute’s reputation for consistently delivering world-class care and successful outcomes has made it the first choice for orthopedic care in the southwest.”

Dr. Slagis has been in practice for nearly 30 years, and specializes in standard orthopedic care involving the shoulder, hip, and knee. He has been bringing his practice to the Copper Queen Community Hospital in Bisbee for the last three years.

“The practice has been very busy in Bisbee,” Dr. Slagis said. “A lot of the patients come to Bisbee from Douglas so we thought it would be helpful if I were to come here and split it up and cover more patients.”

Dr. Slagis continued, “It’s fun, I like to come to rural communities and I think the people really appreciate it. It’s a nice thing because instead of 40 people having to drive to Tucson, they can get their care here. The facility here looks very nice, and it’s great to see that they’re expanding so I enjoy it.”

“We are excited to be able to bring Dr. Slagis to CQMA Douglas. He is one of the highest rated Orthopedic surgeons in the country,” said Jim Dickson, CEO of CQMA. “The residents of Douglas won’t have to worry about transportation or travel expenses to receive world class care.”
