BISBEE — The Arizona Medical Eye Unit will be in the parking lot of Copper Queen Community Hospital Douglas Medical Complex on two different dates in January to provide free eye exams to eligible patients.

The mobile AMEU from the Lions Vision Center, Inc. provides ophthalmological medical eye examinations to rural areas in Arizona where ophthalmic care is not readily available. The hospital provides financial support to allow free medical eye exams, patient education/awareness about eye disease and donated eyeglasses to those who qualify.

The guidelines for the eye unit, according to hospital Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Jessica Sterusky, are as follows:

•The person is on AHCCCS

•The person is on Social Security Disability

•No insurance

•Has not been seen for two years

“We want to ensure everyone has an equal chance of being seen by the mobile eye unit,” Sterusky said.

The free exams are supported by the proceeds from the Copper Queen Community Hospital’s annual golf tournament.
